Not doing anything by halves, I headed straight to the trails for a 3-hour run. Admittedly, both the first feel and first few km’s felt quite different to my usual trail shoe (Hoka Speedgoat 5) with a lot more room around the toes and a different landing feel. However, once I got into my rhythm and was having good chats with my run buddy, I completely forgot I had new shoes on!
My local trail is hilly with a gravel and sometimes muddy base. Despite the challenges of the terrain, I felt very secure underfoot and had no issues with slipping. Partway through the run there was a creek crossing and I’m happy to report that, once crossed, the shoes drained and dried out quite quickly! No sloshing here.
Overall, for wearing a brand-new shoe for a 3-hour trail run, I was pleasantly surprised. I had no issues going to the zero drop (feet and legs both happy!) and I love the wide toe box and built in gaiter Velcro tab. With all said and done I’m happily adding the Olympus 5 to my trial shoe rotation."
